ALL ABOUT ME

MacKenzie Holbrook

I have worked in the Outdoor Industry for 10+ years and love sharing my passion for the Outdoors with others and educating them how to get outside safely!  I am currently the Coordinator of the Colorado Mesa University (CMU) Outdoor Program, teach multiple classes for the Outdoor Recreation Major at CMU, and have recently started my own Swift Water Rescue business where I focus on empowering underserved populations in the whitewater community!!

After being a guide for almost 7 years, I decided to go on the path towards instruction and education in the Outdoors.  My past and current work history includes backpack guiding in Alaska, raft guiding in Colorado, working with US Fish and Wildlife Colorado River Fisheries Recovery Program, CMU Outdoor Program, and professor of river rafting, swift water rescue, backpacking, orienteering, and Leave No Trace for the Outdoor Recreation Major at CMU.

In March of 2021 when I was taking my Swift Water Instructor course, I was the only female in the class.  That is when it hit me that there is a lack of focused instruction for underserved populations in the ego-dominated whitewater community.  I started my business, Human kinda LLC, because I saw a need for the empowerment of women, LGBTQ, BIPOC and any other individuals/communities who find it hard to break through the barrier in the whitewater community and the outdoors in general!
